ABOUT The Work
Deb Danziger's paintings depict a whimsical world where anything is not only possible, but probable.
Weaving images and ideas throughout, she explores her own idiosyncratic vocabulary as visions of flowers with bird heads, children playing, mythical characters, and other dynamic creatures, populate the world. Each piece is made up of seeming non-sequiturs as a visualization of an internal thought process - the jumps our brain makes from one idea to the next. Working within her own imagination, Deborah endeavors to articulate a world that captures both the beauty and strangeness of life. While mischievous and unpredictable, the world she seeks to represent is ultimately lighthearted and optimistic.
Her most recent series, Beyond & Below, is inspired by images from the Hubble Telescope, through which she explores the abstractions created by nebulae, stars, planetary explosions and the galactic detritus that vibrantly and colorfully inhabit our universe. Many of the paintings incorporate bio luminescent underwater animals, juxtaposing the unearthly aspects of the deep ocean with that of deep space.
Deb has taught both children and adults and paints commissions and murals through her company, Phineas' Zoo (www.phineaszoo.com). She also served on the City of El Cerrito Arts & Culture Commission.
